Someone's Star is Shining Brightly

The ladyfriend (sometimes I mistype that and it comes out "ladyfried") deserves many congratulations and more.

Last week she was awarded the City of Hamilton Arts Award for Established Artist in Visual Arts.  We totally weren't expecting it, reluctantly leaving our friend's backyard potluck to make it to the event in a timely manner.  Good thing we did.  Unexpected, but deserved honours are better than the fruit tray from Fortino's.  (Note to graduate students - when invited to a potluck, bring something other than a premade fruit tray; there is only room for one fruit tray per potluck; try harder.)

Last night her show at Rodman Hall opened.  You might remember Rodman Hall from last year's Main Event where Shake-n-Make showed up to wrestle.  It's a great space, and the current exhibits, which include an amazing rendition of the Laura Secord story (forget the chocolates) via intricate woodcuts by Barbara Klunder, are thoughtfully curated and installed.  The opening was a lot of fun, and Liss's work looks fantastic, if I may say so myself.

Shake -n- Make In and Out of the Ring

Pardon the delay in debriefing you on Shake -n- Make's participation in the Main Event at Rodman Hall.  It was a crazy blast.  We're looking forward to next year's event already.

Here I am practicing my moves in the ring before showtime.  Recognize the shoes?

Don't be fooled by the squint, I'm working on my intimidation factor.
In addition to wrestling (and let me tell you - it went beyond polite thumb and leg wrestling), we set up a crafting station so participants could make their own medals.
It's amazing what you can do with Shrinky Dinks, felt, beads, and other dollar store embellishments.

Shake-n-Make at the Main Event

Come join Shake-n-Make at The Main Event.  We'll be at Rodman Hall on the campus of (part of Brock University) this Friday!  A domestic partnership made in heaven - wrestling and art!  I will be thumb-wrestling while Liss will be leg wrestling, and we'll have a station where you can make your own fancy-pants medal.   But don't worry, there's bound to be some smackdown, throwdown action as well - a la a bunch of artists, of course.  Who knows what mayhem will occur, but it'll sure to be creative!

For more info, check out the link to The Main Event above.
